Retirement FAQs

How much should I save for retirement?
A common rule is to save half your age as a percentage of your income. For example, if you start at 30, save 15% of your income. By age 50, aim to have 3-4 times your annual salary in your pension.
Can I contribute to both a personal pension and a SIPP?
Yes, but total contributions across all pensions cannot exceed the annual allowance (£60,000 for 2024/25, or 100% of your earnings if lower).
What happens to my workplace pension when I change jobs?
You have options: leave it with your former employer, transfer it to your new employer's scheme, or consolidate into a Personal Pension or SIPP. We can help you review the best option.
When can I access my pension?
Currently 55, rising to 57 in 2028. You can usually take 25% tax-free and the rest is taxable as income. Different rules apply for international pensions.
What about retirement options for expats?
We offer QROPS (Qualifying Recognised Overseas Pension Schemes) and international SIPPs for clients moving abroad. Speak to one of our international pension specialists.
